Classic Belgian beers in Upstate NY at Brewery Ommegang
Brewery Ommegang needs needs no introduction, but we’ll give it to you because we care. For those who don’t know, they’re one of the biggest Belgian-style beer producers in the United States, owned by parent company Duvel Moortgat in Belgium. We’re big fans of Belgian beer (Farmhouse style Saisons, and everything they brew well). It was because of this that we had to stop by and check out their coolship open fermentation and yeast laboratory… because really… there’s no reason not to!
Located in historic Cooperstown, New York which is also home of the Baseball Hall of Fame and at one point in history, it was one of the biggest hop growing regions in the country. The entire area is rich with beer brewing heritage and American history. In recent years Ommegang has taken on some big challenges for brands like HBO with their Game of Thrones branded series of beer, and they’re really knocking those out of the park.
Take a look at this episode of the Brewery Show for some great information on the history, brewing techniques and more from Brewmaster, Phil Leinhart.
